Cabinets & Chickens

At the end of August through the first week of September we took at trip to Summerville to see my Dad, Vivian, & Ashleigh.  Oh, and the chickens.  Aaron didn't have a lot of work going on so he was able to do a job for my Dad that has been put on hold for years now.  Aaron built new cabinet doors for all 26 cabinets in their kitchen.  It was not a small feat.  He worked and worked while we hung out & played with the chickens.

 Nora & I got to watch the {not-so-baby-anymore} chicks get moved outside.  We were highly entertained...especially watching Xan trying to catch them!  We're glad Xan came to hang out with us there on his first long weekend of USC.

Our favorite part about the chickens is finding the eggs.  Nora discovered the egg collecting bin.  The nests the hens lay in is what she's looking at in there.  You just reach in and get the eggs they laid.

I let Nora carry in 1 egg each time we collected some.  She thought it was a ball or something and was swinging her arm around crazily.  I just kept saying "soft, soft, soft ..." to her until we made it inside.  It worked!  She'd stop sometimes and pet the egg softly and say "soft" herself.  It was cute.

Nora ate her first fresh egg.  (Actually I did too this trip.)  They were good.  Tasted just like eggs. =)  They are a brighter yellow color.  Nora also became very good at using her fork during this trip.

 Nora got really good a crowing like a rooster and loved staring out the window at the chickens.  She's growing so fast and got into everything possible there.  At least she's entertaining!
