September Travels

In September we made a couple of trips back to back. First, we went to PeePaw's house in Summerville.  While Vivian was deployed my Dad decided to have Aaron come to do some work in the kitchen.  Over the last year or so he's tiled the kitchen backsplash & made new cabinet doors.  This time he made a few adjustments to the cabinet doors & painted the rest of the cabinets.  From what we hear, Vivian loved it when she got home!  While Aaron worked, Nora & I played.

She has this best dog friend, Russell.  He is the BEST dog.  He is so good to Nora...and she isn't very gentle.  He is her favorite toy at PeePaw's house.  He is also who Nora always asks to talk to when she facetimes him.  She loves that he will show the dogs on the iPad and get them to bark and howl.  Nora loves Cherry (Shur-ree) too, but she gets tired of Nora.  She is really good & moves away from Nora (or hides in PeePaw's room) if she's had enough.

One of her other favorite 'toys' there are the chickens.  She loves running after them.  I'm sure they don't love it.

Nora forcing Daddy to take a break from working.  He loves it.

We were there several days.  One of the days we went to the farm.  Aaron & my dad shot guns so I took Nora, Russell, & Cherry home.  That way no one was spooked or in danger.  Nora loved the car ride with the pups.

One of the things Nora & I did to entertain ourselves was to go shopping.  Summerville has about any store I would normally go to, so it's pretty convenient.  We made a trip to Target...our favorite store.  Then, we went to TJ Maxx.  Nora fell in LOVE with some dress up shoes.  It was really hard to get her to put them down.  That was the first time I ever had to take her out of store screaming for something.  It was not fun!

When we went home and told PeePaw about the shoes he told Nora she could get them.  He gave her the cash & we went back to the store the next day.  She was so excited!  She also fell in love with a princess set but she already spent her money.  We went next door to Party City & found her a crown, wand, necklace, & ring for 39 cents each.  Way more manageable than the $12 set she wanted & she was just as happy.  Aaron called & asked us to run to Lowe's.  Yes, I let her go into Lowe's just like this:

After those high heels came home she did everything in them.  Actually she still does.  That's another post to come soon!

After Aaron finished the kitchen work, we headed to North Myrtle with April & Travis.  They were vacationing there & invited us to come for a day & night.  We all had fun.  Nora was especially glad to be back at the beach life.  I think April & Travis just invite us so we can bring the entertainment:  Nora.  She steals the show the whole time.

We weren't there for Travis' birthday, but Nora sure dug into the rest of his birthday cupcakes!  She is definitely a frosting girl.  =)

We walked down the street and went to a little diner for dinner.  Its called the Hot Diggity Dog.  Nora's hot dog did not disappoint her.  Their food was pretty good, but their dessert was great!  They had some crazy chocolate cake & a delicious fried cinnamon roll.  Oh it was so good!

We were really watched over while we were there.  The night we stayed at the beach, several cars got broken into--including ours.  We were blessed that the only thing they did was open Aaron's toolbox in the truck bed & take a speed square.  Unfortunately, they broke it trying to break into others' cars.  Luckily they didn't bother with all the more expensive tools inside Aaron's truck.  We definitely consider the whole thing a blessing (& felt horrible they used something of Aaron's to cause so much damage to the other cars)!

We stay busy & travel a lot it seems, but we have some great family & friends to be with!  Yes, I had the packing/unpacking.  Yes, I hate the mound of laundry we have when we get home.  And yes, I hate all the riding in the car time.  But, the fun we have & the memories we make are all worth it.  As the recently hip phrase goes:  You Only Live Once...right?

Siesta Key 2012: Week 4

The last week at the beach...always one of the most exciting (usually when everyone is there) and the saddest week because it's almost over.

Some highlights of the week {worth mentioning first}:

Aaron came!  We missed him a lot and it was finally time for him to fly back to Sarasota.  It was exciting for everyone, but especially Nora & I.

The SPA opened!  Some of the girls decided to be entrepreneurs {very affordable ones, too} and the adults could not have been happier.  I know Aaron was glad when he discovered it!

We made 'elephant toothpaste'.

We took turns (okay not Nora or I) on Nate's new scooter.

We ventured to the 'town' part of Siesta Key one evening.  I have to admit this was really my first time & we've been to Siesta Key for 9 years!  We went to The Old Salty Dog which was shown on Man vs. Food. We also shopped a little, ate some yummy little doughnuts from a doughnut stand (that reminded me of the banana stand from Arrested Development), and had ice cream at the popular Big Olaf.

Girls, girls, girls.
Doughnuts!

Yummy ice cream!
Of course we had lots of beach time...

We loved having Baby Clark to play with!
A tandem bike for a day?  Sure!

A girl's gotta go, when a girls's gotta go!

A sand couch, of course!

Isn't that sweet??

One of my FAVORITE pictures from this summer!

The hat made a come back...

The Deavers brought a neat kite to fly.  Everyone loved watching it get put together and flown.

Since Aaron was available, there was lots of pool time too.  These kids all love when Aaron comes into to town!  There's nothing quite like hanging on him and being flipped so high.  He is really loved by them and must really love them to do that many throws in the air.  =)  The best part for Aaron was that we got to show him Nora's new trick of swimming without floaties. We're so proud of her.

Nora hurt her booty on the stair & asked Aaron to kiss it.  Haha.

Jumping in really does a number on her bathing suit!
Unfortunately the month ended, as it always does.  The first people we said goodbye to was The Browns.

Eventually we all left, but before we did we stayed a couple extra days with The Johnsons.  Baby Clark entertained us all.  When he was sleeping, Ruby & her sweet friend entertained Nora (in the 'hair salon') and Aaron helped Nate with a little project in the garage.

I believe in saving the best for last, so here it is:  Toddlers & Tiaras Night

We planned it most of the month.  It lived up to the excitement for Nora at least.  To say she loved it is putting it mildly.  We found pettiskirts and tutus online.  We shopped at the mall for glitter, earrings, and accessories.  It was all exciting.  The day the pettiskirts came in the mail Ruby, Suzy, & Lily went with me for a special car ride to get them.  Yes, we did listen to the music really loud and dance.  Yes, we did open the box and the girls had complete outfit changes before we made it back to the beach house.

We spent the next couple of days bedazzling their leotard tops for the special show.  Yes, you read that right...bedazzling!  Who knew they sold those at the craft stores these days?  Oh and there were lots of trying on of the outfits and accessories.  Especially Nora trying on all the other girls' stuff.

Trying on Lucy's clip earrings...that's pure excitement.
Before I get to the videos of the actual event...here are some pictures:

Getting Ready...it was chaos at it's finest.

Lots of practicing...

Practicing 'pretty hands'

 The audience patiently watching...

Only the best of Daddys will do that!

The pageant:
One final procession for the judges turns into...a dance party.
The winners were announced.  Even grand supreme.
Haven't seen enough of Nora's dancing?  Maybe you can guess the song of the summer (which is still Nora's current favorite).
A big thanks to Beau, our announcer, and Riley, our escort.  They did a fabulous job.

Fun was had by all.  Along with some delicious Yoder's pie.

Isn't family the best? We have such a great time every time we all get together.  We have the best family!  Now to end this post with a bang...this is what happens when your older cousin lets you play with their rubber band gun.  She loves you, Riley!

Bang.  You're dead.
